... another famous figure has found their way to the front of the headlines -- Amanda Knox. Yes, that Amanda Knox, who served four years in prison for her roommate's alleged murder in 2007 before she and her partner were acquitted in 2015. On Tuesday night, Knox took the uncertainty surrounding the U.S. presidential race as an opportunity to share her comedy chops, making light of her time behind bars in the context of the dumpster fi -- I mean the democratic process of our election.

"Whatever happens, the next four years can't be as bad as that four-year study abroad I did in Italy, right?" Knox posted, seemingly pissing off the entire the Twitterverse.

"Feel bad for the woman who didn't make it back from that study abroad," actress Kelechi Okafor posted, including an upside-down smile emoji. "I think *she* had it a lot worse than you and your boo."

"Girl I don't think you murdered your roommate, but a tweet like this makes me understand why people thought you did," added user @javachik.

However, a handful of people went to bat for Knox's joke, like @TijerinaJessie. "I don't want to live in a world where it's not OK to joke about a nightmare you went through. Yes, it's OK to make a joke about a murder, those are the best jokes." All aspiring comedians, take note -- when in doubt, joke about highly-controversial murders.

Questions of taste aside, aside, some found Knox's joke to illustrate her privileges. "Wow. This tweet is an excellent example of white privilege," Twitter user @TheJessieWoo explained.

"Agreed, the mass persecution of blacks, Muslims, Latinx, & LGBTQ pales in comparison to the tribulations of a single white woman," @antifash1312 added.

Although Knox remained largely silent in the face of her critics, she took one shot at Piers Morgan, who criticized her character in light of the tweet.

"I can think of a 21-year-old British girl named Meredith Kercher who had a far worse time than you in Italy. Remember her? How dare you make a joke of it.. you disgusting piece of work."

Knox clearly seemed to be having none of this. "Occasionally I joke about my wrongful conviction & imprisonment in Italy," she replied. "I'm allowed to joke about my own trauma. I didn't joke about the Kercher's. I didn't kill Meredith. Rudy Guede did, & you know it. Stop exploiting Meredith's name to victim blame me. You're pathetic."

Yikes. Moral of the story? Maybe steer clear of murder jokes on Twitter, lest you face the ire of the entire internet.
