Kaitlin Olson Says This Classic ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ Clip Is Practice for Her Future Emmy Acceptance Speech

Every It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia fan knows that the show has been unjustly snubbed by the snooty Emmy voters every year for the last two decades, but Sweet Dee isn’t bothered — she’s been using the time to work on rebuffing her regurgitation.

Through its 16 seasons of world-class comedy that broke the record for longest-running live-action sitcom in American television history, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has earned a paltry three Emmy nominations, all in the slightly niche category of Outstanding Stunt Coordination for A Comedy Series or A Variety Program. Despite the disrespect, the stars and creators of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia have turned the Emmys’ habitual spurning of their series into one of the show’s best running jokes and one of the better meta episodes with “The Gang Desperately Tries to Win an Award.” 

Still, with each passing year that Always Sunny isn’t even nominated for the more prestigious awards at the ceremony, the joke gets a little less funny and a little more enraging.

Kaitlin Olson is, undoubtedly, the single most underappreciated comic actress in Hollywood when it comes to major industry awards. However, in a recent reply to a fan-posted clip from the classic episode “Dennis Reynolds: An Erotic Life,” Olson made it clear that she’s simply biding her time and working on her stage fright until the Emmys are finally ready to call her name.

Always Sunny fans will recall that, in this scene from “Dennis Reynolds: An Erotic Life,” Charlie begins to understand the hardships that Dee endures (or self-inflicts) on a nightly basis while they prepare to switch places to prove who has it the worst. Despite a career in performance and comedy being her life-long dream, Dee can’t even get through a stand-up set at an open mic without violently retching from nervousness.

Olson, a seasoned actress and comedienne, probably doesn’t have quite as disgusting a problem with stage fright, and unlike Dee, she absolutely deserves for all the hard work to pay off with a trophy that has long eluded the entire Always Sunny cast and crew. Olson has earned two Emmy nominations in her non-Sunny career, most recently for Outstanding Guest Actress in A Comedy Series for her performance as DJ in HBO's Hacks, and with that series continuing its campaign of critical acclaim, it will hopefully only be a matter of time before Olson finally sways the Emmy voters.

After all, Dee's pretty good at wearing people down — just ask Ben the Soldier.
