All the Blowback and Drama from the Tom Brady Netflix Roast

The biggest headline coming out of the Tom Brady roast was generated by Brady himself — and not because of any fantastic jokes he told. When Jeff Ross hit Patriots owner Robert Kraft with a joke referencing Kraft’s sex solicitation charge in 2019, Brady nearly made a blindside tackle on the comic, warning him “Don’t say that shit again.” While some like Bill Simmons think the whole exchange was a gag, the irony remains: If Brady didn’t want people talking about Kraft’s old massage parlor adventures, he shouldn’t have made it the night’s biggest moment.
But that was far from the only fire that ignited during the three-hour roast. Here are five more controversies blazing today thanks to last night’s white-hot Netflix special…

Former Patriots player and convicted murderer Aaron Hernandez committed suicide in prison by hanging himself, and comics weren’t afraid to bring it up. Nikki Glaser razzed Randy Moss for not having a ring while so many others did. “Drew Bledsoe had a ring! Aaron Hernandez has a ring… around his neck.”

Julian Edelman joked about the size of Gronk’s manhood but he couldn’t compare to Hernandez. “Now he was hung.”
Shayanna Jenkins, Hernandez’s partner and the mother of his only child, wasn’t happy. “It’s sad that I’m trying to raise my children in such a cruel world,” she told TMZ.
Really? If you can't roast a convicted killer, who can you roast?

After Will Ferrell’s appearance as Ron Burgundy, comic Hinchcliffe was reminded of Anchorman’s misguided translation of San Diego. “A whale’s vagina, which reminds me, Kim Kardashian’s here. She’s had a lot of Black men celebrating her end zone,” Hinchcliffe joked. “Kim, word of advice, close your legs. You have more public beef than Kendrick and Drake.”

According to The Independent, some viewers were incensed. “Slut-shaming women in front of a crowd of people and making women the butt of a joke for absolutely no reason is so disrespectful,” wrote one viewer.
“And what’s the punchline,” asked another. “Misogyny?”

It was a rough night for Kardashian, who was visibly shaken when she was booed upon taking the dais. The New York Post reported that she looked angry and uncomfortable, trying to quiet the boos with a pleading, “All right, all right, all right.”

It probably didn’t help that host Kevin Hart kept exclaiming “Whoa!” as if he didn’t expect Kardashian’s reception to be that bad. Things didn’t get any better when Brady took the stage and fired off this shot: “I know Kim was terrified to be here tonight. Not because of this, but because her kids are at home with their dad.”

In 2015, Brady was suspended and the Patriots forfeited draft picks after the quarterback was suspected of deflating footballs for a better grip. Brady always protested his innocence. Until last night, anyway.
“Remember Deflategate? The NFL spent $20 million and found that it was more ‘probable’ than not, that I was ‘generally’ aware that someone may have deflated my footballs,” he said. “You could’ve just given me the 20 million, and I would’ve just told you I fucking did it.”
