Logic and Kevin Smith Made a ‘Clerks’-Themed Music Video That’s Comedy’s Corniest Crossover

Though it seems unlikely, Logic might not be the only rapper who considers Kevin Smith to be “one of (his) favorite directors” – but he’s certainly the only one who would ever think to make a music video with the cast of Clerks.

The Maryland-based rapper teamed up with Smith and the rest of the Clerks crew to film the video for his latest single, “Highlife,” and the result was exactly as silly and shamelessly earnest as anyone could expect from a crossover between rap’s biggest cornball and the mind behind the most unexpectedly enduring slacker comedy films of the ‘90s. The Smith-directed “Highlife” video -- much like most of Smith’s filmography -- is a celebration of smoking weed and hanging out in parking lots with all of your friends who had nothing better to do.

In the comments of the video, Logic called the music video “a dream come true” – for a rapper with three platinum records and two Grammy nominations, bumming around a convenience store parking lot with the cast of a micro-budget buddy comedy from 1994 doesn’t seem like something that would be that high on his bucket list.

Then again, maybe “High Life” will inspire Hopsin to make a Chasing Amy-themed music video and Smith will enter his hip hop phase – it wouldn’t be any worse than Cop Out.
