A 'Hocus Pocus' Sequel Is Officially In The Works

Well folks, it may have taken what feels like 300 years (or, well seven months since their fundraiser-exclusive reunion last October) but the Sanderson Sisters are finally back, hitting the big screen in a long-awaited follow-up to their iconic 1993 flick, Hocus Pocus. Announced on Thursday, the spooky sequel is scheduled to hit Disney+ in October of 2022, with the terrifying trio of Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy all set to reprise their respective roles as witchy siblings, Winifred, Mary, and Sarah Sanderson. 

Although the original cast may be making a comeback, the first film's director Adam Shankman says he'll hand his directorial reigns over to Anne Fletcher, best known for her work on late aughts classics including Step Up, The Proposal, and 27 Dresses. "As heartbroken as I am that I won't be able to direct my friends Bette, Sarah Jessica and Kathy in what is sure to be nothing short of a major event for Disney+ due to scheduling conflicts, I couldn't be more pleased to be handing over the reins to Anne, who has brought so much laughter and joy into people's lives with her previous work," Shankman said in a statement to CNN. Despite stepping back as director, he will be staying on the project as an executive producer. 

Team shakeups aside, the plot of the upcoming flick will center around three women who accidentally conjure the Sanderson Sisters to Salem, Massachusets, and for the sake of children that would rather not be eaten, figure out how to stop them from devouring their youth and destroying the world. So, folks, It's been a long almost 28 years, here's to hoping our childhoods aren't destroyed.
