'Aly & Aj' Release Expletive-Filled Version of Disney Channel Jam, 'Potential Breakup Song'

Grown-up Disney Channel kids with a proclivity for swearing, rejoice! Approximately 13 years after Aly & Aj's d-bag boyfriends took too long to call back on their birthdays, their stupid birthdays, the iconic aughts pop duo has returned with an expletive-filled reimagining of their 2007 hit single, "Potential Breakup Song" -- and this time, they're not pussyfooting around in reprimanding their unappreciative partners. No longer do all the sisters want is just their stuff back, they want their shit back. They're done warning their soon-to-be ex-boyfriends about how their behavior will "mess up" their relationships, they're demanding these mischievous men "... think clearly, clearly" before they "Fuck up the situation" that they'll "miss dearly, dearly." Aly & Aj, like many of us this year, aren't just angry, they're pissed the fuck off  -- and want the world to feel their catchy, curse word-laden wrath.

Like most notable pop-culture occurrences this year, this tale of long-awaited musical fury began on TikTok. In early October, Aly & Aj found themselves back at the forefront of our cultural zeitgeist when "Potential Breakup Song" regained popularity as the centerpiece of a brand new trend where nostalgic teens and 20-somethings lip-synched along to the poppy, girl-power anthem.

... a small creator by the name of @itsup2uman provided an intriguing suggestion for how the musical duo could, erm, revamp the classic Disney Channel hit to appeal to a more grown-up audience.

"Listen, all that I want for Christmas this year is a version of 'Potential Breakup Song' by Aly & Aj where they finally say 'it was my birthday, my fucking birthday.' like we know exactly what you wanted to say," he quipped, before briefly pausing his rant to pull up a copy of the song on YouTube, superimposing the "stupid" with the coveted f-bomb. "You can't tell me that wouldn't be the most satisfying thing ever."

It seemed we'd have to wait for a post-covid live performance to experience the curse-word laden version of this mid-2000s banger, however, a little more than two months later, the pop duo dropped a teaser trailer for the newly R-rated single, F-bombs and all, alongside the date of December 29, 2020. I guess Christmas wishes really do come true --  well, at least if you're @itsup2uman.
